Angela and Paul's Backlinks

Angela and Paul's Backlinks

If you are looking for quality backlinks, then I do NOT recommend using Angela and Paul's backlinks program. Why? Well, it's obvious that they have done a lot of work on their program. BUT I don't think Angela and Paul's backlinks provide you with good backlinks.

What makes a good backlink?

A good backlink should come from a high PR, "dofollow" website that contains content related to your niche. While Angela and Paul's backlinking program does provide you with "dofollow", high PR websites, most of them have NOTHING to do with your niche. They are just taking advantage of community sites...community sites that people have spent a lot of time and effort working up to their high PR.

Don't get me wrong, community sites are a great way to get backlinks to your blog or website. But they should be community sites that you are going to participate in, and be an active member in. The sites that Angela and Paul's backlinking program provides you with are too wide of a variety; and many of the community sites do not allow you to have links until you have made a certain amount of posts. And most will delete your profile for inactivity, which will delete any backlinks you had.

Problems with Angela and Paul's Backlinks

There are problems with the types of backlinks that Angela and Paul's backlink program provides you. Here's a list:

  • First of all, the sites provided by Angela and Paul's backlinks are too wide and varied to apply to the niche of one blog. One of the sites Angela and Paul's backlinking program provides is a rape crisis center community; how does that help your blog??

  • The type of backlinks that Angela and Paul's backlinking program gives you are considered "spamming".

  • Using Angela and Paul's backlinks is a form of "shady SEO tactics". This means that you're trying to piggy bank off someone else's work, without adding any quality back to their site.

If you're thinking about using Angela and Paul's backlinks, I definitely recommend against it. Yes, you will get backlinks, but they are on sites that aren't going to give any quality to your blog. I recommend getting quality backlinks your own way.

Freelance with ODesk!

freelance with ODesk

If you're looking to do freelance work, check out The On Demand Global Workforce - oDesk. There are many freelance job listing sites out there, but all of the ones I've found charge you money to bid on freelance jobs. ODesk doesn't.

How Freelancing with ODesk Works

When you sign up for a free freelancing account with ODesk, you fill out a profile which includes your resume, skills, and portfolio (if you have one). Odesk offers freelance workers the chance to take assessment tests to add to your profile. The other freelance websites I've been to do not offer this to their freelance members. I'll tell you more about ODesk's freelancer assessment tests in a minute.

Once you have completed your freelancer profile on ODesk, it's time to start searching for freelance work! ODesk has freelance jobs in the following categories:

  • Web Development

  • Writing & Translation

  • Customer Service

  • Software Development

  • Administrative Support

  • Sales & Marketing

  • Networking & Information Systems

  • Design & Multimedia

  • Business Services

Applying to Freelance Jobs at ODesk

Each freelance job posting on ODesk will have a Qualifications list. If you meet all the qualifications, you can apply for the freelance job by clicking "Apply". All freelance jobs you apply for on ODesk must have a cover letter attached; describe your freelance qualifications as they apply to the freelance job description. Odesk includes good and bad examples of a cover letter right under the application, so it's easy to apply to a freelance position on ODesk!

The second ODesk application screen is where you will enter your bid for the freelance job. Make sure you look at the budget, and average bid for the freelance position, and bid accordingly.

Working on ODesk

ODesk offers a payment guarantee for hourly freelance positions. How can ODesk guarantee payment? When you receive a freelance position on ODesk, you download an application that tracks your online work hours. The program takes 6 screenshots an hour of your screen, so the freelance buyer can see that you are really working. When you login to the ODesk program, your time is logged; in essence, the program is your time clock.

ODesk Assessment Tests for Freelancers

Sometimes it can be hard to get started freelancing because you have no portfolio or references to show. It's the same on ODesk. Once you have completed a few freelance jobs on ODesk, you have some feedback from the buyers; but how do you get started on ODesk? You need to prove your skills, and establish your expertise to get freelance positions.

This is where the freelancer assessment tests come in. Can you see why the assessment tests offered to freelancers by ODesk are such a great idea? Having high test scores will show potential clients that you know what you're talking about! ODesk offers tests in the following categories:

  • .Net Technology

  • Computer Hardware

  • Computer Skills

  • Databases

  • Electronics

  • English Language Skills

  • Finance & Accounting

  • General Management

  • General Programming

  • Graphics Design

  • International Languages

  • Internet Concepts

  • Internet Programming

  • Java Technologies

  • Microsoft Technologies

  • Miscellaneous Certifications

  • Networking

  • Office Skills

  • Open Source Tools & Technologies

  • Operating Systems

  • Sales & Marketing

  • Software Testing

  • Translation Skills

  • Web Designing

  • ODesk

The very first assessment test you should take on ODesk is the "ODesk Readiness Test". Until you complete this test, the number of jobs you can apply to is limited.

Now I am new to ODesk, I only signed up 2 days ago. But I am already working my first freelance job on ODesk, and have applied for several others. If you want to freelance, I really urge you to check out freelancing with ODesk!

Do any of you already work for ODesk? What are your experiences?

Want to Make Money from Home?

It's the latest American dream: make money from home. But is it really possible to make money from home? Of course it is! There are tons of people doing it. If you, too, want to make money from home, you need to determine what exactly you want to do...do you want to start your own business? Do you want to get into retail? Or provide services?

Speaking generically, there are three ways to make money at home:

  1. Writing on various platforms;

  2. Start a home business;

  3. Join various money-making web sites.

Make Money From Home by Writing

The first way to make money from home is to write for various websites. There are many sites offering a chance to write articles and get paid for them. Most do not offer much money per article, but you can make money from home by writing for these sites. Associated Content, Helium and E-How are examples of sites that give you the chance to make money from home by writing articles. Constant Content is a site that allows you to sell your articles and set your own price.

These sites are free to join, and consist of an active writing community.

But, I do urge caution...if you want to make money from home, but aren't good at writing...this may not be the best way for you to make money from home. If you hate writing, I definitely wouldn't advise writing to make money from home!

On the flip side, you can also make money from home with your own blog or website. Have a passion? Start a blog or aa website, display ads and market yourself. This requires a huge time commitment, and takes a lot of work, but many people are making great money from home with their own blogs or websites!

Make Money From Home with Your Own Home Business

Another way to make money from home is by starting your own business. Companies such as Avon, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef or Discovery Toys give moms the chance to make money at home by running their own business. These types of companies require an initial investment, but ultimately offer great freedom of schedule and income opportunities.

If you have marketable skills, you can open your own home business to make money at home. What skills? Well, almost anything...do you make crafts, such as woodworking, crocheting, knitting or scrapbooking? Start selling your crafts online, or at craft shows! Have great office skills? Consider starting a business as a virtual personal assistant...all from the comfort of your own home! Know how to design websites, or program applications? Consider freelancing as a web designer or a developer.

There are many different skills that can be converted into a business that will help you make money from home. If you choose this route, make a list of skills, talents and hobbies that you have. I'm sure you have something that you can market!

Make Money From Home Using Various Money-Making Websites

The final category of ways to make money at home is to sign up for websites that pay you for various activities. Some websites claim to pay you for reading emails; others for signing up for offers, and still others for participating in their community. Do any of these websites really pay? I honestly don't know...I've signed up for Inbox Dollars, but haven't reached the payout threshold yet, so I can't vouch for if they pay or not...

So do you want to make money from home? First you must decide what type of "job" you want. Once you figure out which category you want to be in, you can conduct research to decide the best option for you to make money from home.

I welcome comments, please leave thoughts or comments! :-)

Google Blogger Templates

If you have a blog on blogger, you may have noticed that the templates are somewhat plain. If you would like to get something a little more classy, or personal, you will need a new Blogger template. Where can you find Blogger templates? Well, there are websites providing free blogger templates that give your blog a beautiful appearance. You can also learn how to create your own Blogger templates.

Create Your Own Blogger Template

If you have some CSS or HTML knowledge, it will be quite simple for you to create your own Blogger template. Google actually offers a Blogger template walkthrough to help you learn how to create your own Blogger template. If you don't understand everything in that Blogger template walkthrough, you can either purchase a book (the ones listed above are great) that explains CSS and HTML, or just stick to the pre-made Blogger templates that are available.

Creating your own Blogger template is simple once you know how. It's basically CSS code, and what are known as "tags" specific to Google Blogger content. If you're familiar with CSS and HTML, you shouldn't have a problem creating your new Blogger template.

Free Blogger Templates

My favorite place for free Blogger templates is B Templates. They offer a huge collection of free Blogger templates. Their selection is eclectic and beautiful. The free Blogger templates they offer are put in many different categories, from colors, to style, to layout. I strongly suggest that if you are looking for a free Blogger template to jazz up your blog, you check out B Templates.

The Free Templates Blog offers a nice selection of free Blogger templates as well. If you can't find what you're looking for, I suggest subscribing to the RSS feed on the free template blog.

Changing Your Blogger Template

Once you have found your new Blogger template, downloaded it to your computer and unzipped the files, you are ready to upload it to Blogger! Please note that when uploading a new XML Blogger template, you will lose any gadgets and widgets you have on your blog. When I changed my Blogger template, I first copied all the code from each widget so I could replace it after the change.

Go to your Blogger account, click the "Layout" tab and click on "Edit HTML". There is a place there for you to upload a new template to your blog. Click the "Browse" button, find the file on your hard drive, and click upload. See how easy it is to upload a new Blogger template?

Do you have a favorite website that you get free Blogger templates? Or perhaps some tips on creating your own Blogger template? Please share! I love comments!

Work at Home Scams

work at home scams

I'm sure y'all have read my post on profitstudiolearning.com, and how they are a scam. But how did so many people get taken in on this work at home scam? How can you prevent being taken in by a work at home scam? Well, I'm going to give you some tips on how to spot a work at home scam.

Work at Home Scams Cost Money

If you find a website that charges you money to work at home with them, it's a scam. Keep in mind I'm not talking about work at home business opportunities, I'm talking about actual work at home jobs. For obvious reasons, home business opportunities will require an initial investment, just like any business start-up; work at home opportunities should NOT cost any money. If you get a job at an office, do you have to pay the employer? Of course not! So whether it's stuffing envelopes, or a data entry work at home job, if they charge you money, it's a work at home scam.

Another work at home type of site that does not fall into the work at home scam category is the service sites. These sites offer freelance job listings for a subscription fee, or a membership fee. Paying the fee allows you to bid on freelance jobs listed on the site.

Research Work At Home Jobs

The first thing you should do when discovering a new work at home job is research it. Don't get taken by a work at home scam! Take the company's name, or website, type it into Google and hit Enter. The results will range from the company's website to blog entries of people who have tried it before. Read what other people have to say about it; is it a work at home scam?

Even if some blogs say they have experience with the site/company and that it's a work at home scam, do two more searches for your research: The Rip Off Report and The Better Business Bureau. Both places should have information if there have been any complaints about the company in the past.

Beware of Work At Home Scams

It's sad that there are so many people out there trying to scam us. But it pays to do the preliminary research to protect yourself from work at home scams. Basically, the old adage "sounds too good to be true" should be followed. If you find a site that claims you can make $100 an hour right now, it's most likely a work at home scam. Legitimate work at home jobs will still be work, and shouldn't cost you a dime to start.

Do you have any other tips for avoiding work at home scams? Have you been taken by a work at home scam? Let us know! I love comments! :-)

How To Save Money On Your Grocery Bill

how to save money on your grocery bill

I know, how to save money on your grocery bill isn't normally a topic I would cover on this blog...but, given the economy, I figured that giving you tips on how to save money on your grocery bill would be appropriate. The following tips are how I saved money on my grocery bill in the last few months.

Like a lot of Americans, my family has been feeling a really tight crunch. Our grocery bill is usually over $1,100 a month; we haven't had that much money to spend on groceries lately. I was able to cut my grocery bill by HALF! Our family of seven now eats on a monthly grocery budget of $562!

Creating a Menu to Save Money on Groceries

Choose one day each week to be your grocery shopping day. Do a menu for the entire week, starting on that day and going to the next week. How does this help you save money on your grocery bill? First of all, you're purchasing only what you need for specific meals, whereas without a weekly menu, you're purchasing many things that you won't use at all.

When creating your menu, be sure to look through your cupboards and refrigerator, to see what you already have that can be incorporated into your menu. This is a very important step in saving money on your grocery bill. Without incorporating what you already have in your pantry, you really aren't going to save much money on your grocery bill.

Use a Shopping List to Save Money on Your Grocery Bill

Once you have completed your menu for the week, make a shopping list. Again, be sure to go through your kitchen, check to see what you already have so that you're not duplicating food purchases.

Having a shopping list helps you save money on your grocery bill by giving you limits while shopping. Make a rule that you won't purchase anything that's not on the list. This will prevent impulse buying, which can help raise your grocery bill.

To Save Money on Your Grocery Bill, Don't Waste Food

Not wasting food is another very important element in saving money on your grocery bill. If you have leftovers, be sure to store them in the fridge. Include a meal or two (we usually have about 4 meals of leftovers a week) of leftovers per week. This ensures that we aren't throwing money out in the trash, and allows us to get the most out of our dollars.

If you have food that is near its expiration date, use that food up. Switch meals for that day on the menu if you have to, but make sure you aren't throwing food out that hasn't even been used yet!

Using Coupons to Save Money on Your Grocery Bill

Using coupons, when done wisely, can really shave some cost off your grocery bill. I went shopping a few days ago for my weekly menu, and saved almost $14 by using coupons.

So how do you use coupons? When looking through your local newspaper coupons, only cut out coupons for products that you already use. You aren't going to save money on your grocery bill if you consistently purchase items that you wouldn't otherwise use, because you have a coupon.

Save Money on Your Grocery List by Eating Before Grocery Shopping

I'm sure y'all have heard this one: do not go grocery shopping when you're hungry! If you go shopping when you are hungry, everything is going to look good, and you will walk out of the grocery store with a grocery bill $20-$30 more than you had wanted. Therefore, eat before you go shopping to prevent impulse buying, and therefore saving money on your grocery bill!

Comments, Suggestions?

Have you found a way to save money on your grocery bill that you would like to share? Did you try my ideas? Leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

Search Engine Optimization for Blogs

Search Engine Optimization for Blogs

I think we all want traffic for our blogs. One method of getting traffic to your blog is via search engines. But how do you get your blog to shop up in search engine results? By optimizing your blog entries. But how does Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for blogs work?

There are several different ways to implement SEO for your blog. I will go over these, so you can get started with increasing your search engine traffic to your blog.

Choosing Your Keywords

Before performing any SEO tactics on your blog, you need to know what keywords people should use to find your blog. For example, if you're writing a blog entry on how to care for geraniums, then "how to care for geraniums" would be your keyword phrase. Try to limit each blog entry to one topic; this will help raise your blog SEO and get you more traffic from the search engines. Now let's discuss how to get people looking for info on how to care for geraniums to your blog!

SEO Blog Tactic: Image Optimization

The first thing you should do for your blog's SEO is include a picture in your blog entry. There is an attribute inside the tag (the "< img >") called "alt". In this alt attribute, you want to put your keywords. So, using the example I presented in the last section, the image tag will look similar to this: "< img ... alt="how to care for geraniums" ...>"

SEO Blog Tactic: Keyword Usage

The next tactic for improving your blog's SEO is to increase your keyword density. Your keyword density means how often the keywords appear in your text. I would suggest keeping your keyword density between 3% and 5%. This tells the search engines that your topic is relevant to the keywords.

Headers and emphasized text also help with your blog's SEO. Search engines consider stressed words and headers as great indicators of the subject of your blog, so using keywords in headers and putting a couple in bold help with your blog's SEO.

SEO Blog Tactic: Links to Your Blog

The more links on other websites that point to your blog, the better off your page ranking will be. Search engines consider the number of other sites that point to your site as a "vote" of relevancy on the topic at hand. The big question is, how do you get links?

There are many ways to get links to help your blog's SEO. One is to join a group related to your blog's topic, and request link exchanges. Another great way to get links for you blog's SEO is to post comments on other blogs. You can also join forums related to your blog's topic, and post regularly.

Submit your blog to sites such as Blog Catalog, Blog Carnivals, and Entrecard. All of these are great ways to increase your blog's SEO.

Internal links will help increase your blog's SEO as well. Have relevant links to other posts on your blog related to the current post; this adds value to your blog, and shows the search engines that you have easy to find and relevant content for readers.

Using these SEO tactics for your blog will soon have you getting some nice search engine traffic. Let me know how they work for you, or just let me know if you have any questions! ;-)

Entrecards for Free Traffic

Entrecard free traffic for your blog

You have probably all noticed the new widget at the top of my last sidebar called "Entrecard". I have found what may be the best way (so far) to get free traffic to your blog: entrecard.com.

For those of us who have a low budget for start-up, free traffic to our blog is a dream. There are other systems out there offering free traffic to your blog, but few of them deliver quality traffic. Even though many will provide free traffic to your blog, the visitors most likely are only there to earn their reward, not to read your content.

So, the question remains: can you get quality, targeted free traffic to your blog?

I believe you can! Let me introduce you to Entrecard.com. Entrecard.com is a place where you create an entrecard and drop it off with other bloggers; each entrecard you drop earns you credits, which you then use to purchase ads on blogs of your choosing. Sound intriguing? Keep reading; I'll explain how Entrecard.com will help you get free traffic to your blog.

What is an Entrecard?

Let's start at the beginning - what is an entrecard, and how will it give you free traffic to your blog?

Basically, an entrecard is your business card. All an entrecard is is a 125px by 125 px banner. You can choose one of Entrecard's free designs for your entrecard, or you can design your own (recommended).

You drop your entrecard on another blog that interests you, using the Entrecard widget that other Entrecard members have on their blogs. This earns both you and the other blogger one credit each.

Purchasing Entrecard Ads

Once you've dropped your Entrecard on a few blogs and built up some credits, it's time to purchase some ads. Go to the campaign section on Entrecard.com and get ready to get some free traffic for your blog! Look through the blogs, choose one that you think has readers interested in your topic and click advertise. That's it!

Your entrecard (i.e. banner) will run on the blog for a full 24 hours, not on a rotating basis. Voila! Free targeted traffic for your blog!

Fast Free Traffic for Your Blog

There are many things you can do on Entrecard to help get you fast free traffic for your blog. For one, do reciprocal drops. What do I mean by that? When someone drops their entrecard on your blog, drop your entrecard on their blog. This will encourage others to do reciprocal drops with you, and increase your credits, which in turn will allow you to purchase more ads. All of it adds up to more free traffic for you!

Many people offer incentives for their top droppers (the people who dropped their entrecards the most in a month's time). A blog entry with links to the top droppers' websites is very common. This not only helps get free traffic to your blog, but also helps by increasing your links (which raises your pagerank).

I am just getting started with Entrecards.com, and so far I have purchased 4 ads. I will let you know how it all works out. I hope this blog entry helps you!

I love comments! Do you use Entrecard.com to get free traffic to your blog? How has it worked for you? Let me know what you think of it after you check out the site.
